For our company logo, the colours used were not too bright or cute due to the fact that this could distract from the opening. The process began on photoshop with an already rendered gear symbol.
I started with a clear, hd image of a gear symbol.
I then duplicated the image, removed the background and filled it in white.
I then edited  the logo on Motion, the process was difficult and required several trials and errors before the item could be successfully animated.  I then saved the motion file as a final cut pro generated image and added appropriate music to suit our logo. Overall I think our logo is well made and suits the genre as it introduces the opening with dramatic music and dark colours.

'KEEP IN THE DARK' by The Temples plays. LOGO AND DIRECTOR TITLE.
LARA'S NARRATION:
I'm okay with being different. I just don't want
to be scared. Not anymore.

CUTS TO EXTREME CLOSE UP OF LARA’S EYES.THEY FLASH OPEN.

A body peers over Lara. Her face is blurred and draws ominously closer.

EXT.FIELD
THE GIRL
-It’s time to wake up, Lara.

LARA SHOOTS UPWARDS AND GASPS. HYPERVENTILATING.
(YELLING)

LARA
-Ka… Hello? Judas?

FIGURE DISAPPEARS. LARA FUMBLES FOR HER PHONE AS IT RINGS.

LARA
[RELIEVED]
- Oh my God, Kal. Where the hell are you? I don't know where I am I'm-

Lara pulls back from the phone.
Realising it's not a call but a shaky video playing.

INT.CELLAR/ROOM

Lara enters a room amongst several
other teenagers who are laughing and drinking.
They turn and greet her except for two,
Lilith and Damien, who sarcastically greet her, the footage
is filmed by Damien.

JUDAS
(stands up to say greet Lara and loses his footing)
-Hey stranger

LILITH
(annoyed)
-Can you not elbow me in the process? Thanks.

KALI
(clutching her necklace and taking sips of a drink)
-Lil calm down, can you pass the...um

DAMIEN
(Stretches over and passes the vodka)
-This?

KALI nods quickly and flashes a nervous smile.

EXT. FIELD
Lara notices a discarded water bottle, although
it is dirty, she desperately takes several swigs
before choking on the sight ahead of her.

LARA
(emotional and close to tears.)
-Oh God please no. KALI! HELP!SOMEBODY!

She holds the necklace close to her before
noticing the red shoes that her friend
Lilith had worn.

Lara reaches over frantically and tries
calling Lilith, followed by Kali.

LARA
-DAMN IT. (crying) No no no.

Suddenly, Lara clutches her head, taking deep haggard breaths.

INT.CELLAR/ROOM

The gathering has escalated, the friends
are daring each other when Damien retrieves something from
his pocket. The actions switch between phone screen and
memory has Lara struggles to cope.

DAMIEN
- Okay be quiet seriously.

LARA
-What are those? Are they like, serious or
just paracetamol? (Laughs nervously)

LILITH
-Wow Lara that's deep, they're good.
(Turns to Damien and flirtatiously smiles
much to Kali's disgust.)
I had one at Reese's right?

DAMIEN
-No, these are new, apparently they're gonna
be BIG.

Lilith takes two confidently, Judas shakes his head
whilst Kali watches Lilith in a mixture of worry and
admiration.

JUDAS
(cautious)
-No guys let's not, my dad said if he finds
anything down here, that's it.

Kali suddenly reaches forward, grabbing the bottle and
taking two. Lara is offered and shakes her head.

LILITH
-Why were you actually invited? Like you're not
drinking and you're-

Lara takes two pills, Judas finally gives in and takes
some. As the pills take hold, Lara's memory begins to falter,
the music becomes overpowering, glass is smashed.

Kali reaches for the phone, staring deeply.
KALI
-Lara...what's happening?

Task 12: Our script

The props task was displayed as a mood board as the images and text would be easily laid out so that it was easy to read. The relevant pictures of the props that are going to be used were made quite big so that they stood out, the ext was made bold so that it was easy to read. The pictures were placed next to the text that explained why we want to use it and why it was relevant to our opening sequence.

What are the costume ideas for our character?

Isla
Isla

We chose to layout our information like this because it allows us to simply evaluate whether these costumes will be appropriate for our genre and characters.

Chioma

Our costume ideas are simplistic but will include many symbolic and deeper meanings of what each item will mean for their respective character.

Task 10: Costume ideas

For our casting shots, we chose to create 2 or 3 shots that reflected the thriller genre. In order to make them appear professional we took several shots and angles to give us a better idea of our characters. For example, the character Kali played by Annabel was instructed to channel her soft and shy side for the images whereas for Damien and Lilith's characters, we wanted to be able to reference their more aggressive personalities in their images,  so we had them reflect that by crossing their arms or placing their hands in their pockets.

Damien Walker played by Elliott Jackson

For Damien we chose Chioma's friend, Elliott this was because we felt that he could pull off how we wanted Damien to look and behave. We felt that his height contributed to his character as we can manipulate camera angles to make him seem stronger and more powerful than the other characters. Damien is very popular so he dresses with the typical cool look, ripped jeans and black t-shirt. As he is popular he acts very arrogantly which is reflected in his posture and the way he walks.

Lara Hunt played by Samantha Jolliffe
Samantha was chosen due to the fact that she has an acting background and suited the personality that lara has such as confident and friendly, however, in the opening sequence, we will focus on the contrasting side to Lara, which is desperate and nervous when she wakes up in the field. A variety of different camera angles are used to portray her shy and nervous character.

Kali Winslow played by Annabel Stiling

Judas Martin played by Ben Roberts

Lilith Jones played by Elise Dunn

What are ideal locations for our opening?

The reasons we chose locations such as heavily nature filled parks, dilapidated statues and open fields is because it allows for versatile camera shots and also supports the thriller genre. The pictures in the park were taken around the morning so that the shots mimicked the misty and isolated landscape that the character Lara would wake up in.

The image of a bus stop was taken at night in order to appear more intense and ominous. The dim light whilst the background is dark presents an effective contrast that we could use for our opening. It helps bring across connotations such as fear and mystery as the audience would be unaware of why no one else is in the street.

Other locations we may consider.

This location is close by and provides a wide landscape.

Lara could walk through this location.

A bedroom or garage may be used, I chose to change the lighting in this room to red to present the ominous feeling that
it could present.

The characters could be shown entering the room or going down these stairs to get there.

Task 8: Locations for our film

Tuesday, 8 March 2016

Overall we found that our target audience were close to the age range of 16-25 year olds. This has influenced our approach to our opening sequence as now we are sure that our opening will focus heavily on the thriller aspects. If our film were to be professionally made, it would most likely be a lower budgeted film similar to the style of Warp X, this is because the style would be more suited for a certain type if audience and would not necessarily be considered as a mainstream film due to the incorporation of the indie genre as well as the thriller. We then compared our film idea to other similar productions and looked on Google and imdb to see whether they were big budget films or smaller independent( but just as successful) productions.

We also found however that the most popular thriller films contained more violence, celebrities and special effects, thus bringing us to the conclusion that our thriller would be less likely to be a large scale and high budget production. The age range for those films, such as the hateful eight and Revenant, appealed more to 25-30 year olds.

Task 7b: Further thoughts on Target audience

Below is the survey created in order to help us see what kind of age, gender and audience we had to aim for in our opening sequence.

Initially we thought that our genre and film would no appeal to anyone under the age of 16 as the opening deals with adult themes such as murder, unlike films like Hot fuzz that also contain an element of comic relief. I also looked at IMDB for inspiration from thriller and indie films that were rated quite popular.

How did we create our 25 word pitch?

We created this 25 words poster on photoshop whilst gaining inspiration from thriller posters such as the movie 'Red' and an alternate poster for 'Leon'. The reason different text types were used was to mimic the characters scattered memory. An image of Isla was used, it was originally a black and white photo that suited the style enough, I then edited and turned the image upside down to create a more indie and creative version of the thriller genre.

Isla's self photography and Chioma's edit.

Are we happy with the outcome?

Overall we were both extremely happy with the outcome as it was an interesting way to display our 25 word pitch.
